Track 06 – The Old Home Place

“The Old Home Place” is an instrumental that captured for me the safe and special feeling of “Home.” The painting of Granny Pearl’s “old home place in the cove” inspired me to sit down at the piano and write this song.

As the tune came to me, I was just breathing in all of the years that we had spent in our home, and the many emotions and memories we had there. It’s funny, but many of those memories are one’s that our children will never know . . . like: Winding up the mobile to a tune I would hum them to sleep with; leaving a meeting in New York to get back home for a piano or dance recital, a play, a ball game; rubbing noses in the crib; praying for a free throw to go in.

Anyway, “The Old Home Place” is about the special thoughts and feelings of “Home”, kind of like a “hug”. Like Granny Pearl used to say: “If I wasn’t at home . . . I was headed there.”
