Track 18 – . . . like a phantom limb

$0.99

We sometimes think back on times and relationships in our lives that we wish we could just rewind “Time” and do over again, to begin again and do things differently than we had done them before. So I wrote “Like a Phantom Limb” as I imagined what my life would have been like if Barb and I had stayed “Two” instead of becoming “One”. It was an unimaginable thought.

I’m grateful and blessed that, when it comes to the love that Barb and I have shared for fifty-five years, if we were ever presented with the opportunity to start over, to begin again . . . we would do things over  . . . just the way we did them.

Description

. . . like a phantom limb (4:07)

i often wonder “what might have been” . . . if we could just somehow . . . begin again

i drift back to days that we once knew

to a time and a friendship that i wish we could redo

on cold days, our breaths made circles in the air

as i sang “For Emily” and “Scarborough Fair

when our feelings for “us” began to gather and grow

like soft evening shadows embracing the snow

each day had no plan we just lived on “fun”

in worship and awe of what we’d begun

in worship and awe of what we’d begun

i often wonder “what might have been” . . . if we could just somehow . . . begin again

long talks, hop skipping, and pink evening swings

Joy” was our sky . . . and “Love” was our wings.

we couldn’t wait to be together each day

Life” was our stage and “Time” was our play

there were so many new feelings that we didn’t understand

as “Hope” carried us off in the palm of Her hand.

we let out our kite strings and flew so high

but the knots that we made . . . God just couldn’t untie

so we quietly melted like snow in the sun

and our dreams just skipped away to where they’d first begun

back to two different dreams instead of one

when dreams come to an end . . .  tell me . . . what happens then?

i often wonder “what might have been” . . . if we could just somehow . . . begin again

a part of me is missing . . . that i can’t renew . . . but like a phantom limb

I . . . can . . . still . . . feel . . . you

I . . . can . . . still . . . feel . . . you

i often wonder “what might have been” . . . if we could just somehow . . . begin again
