Friendship . . . It Just Has Its Time (3:37)
I sat down with some poetry today . . . hoping to happen upon you there.
Bare back to bark beneath our tree . . . thinking you’d creep up on me there.
Time was . . . not in a hurry. Our hearts’ wings . . . flew us away.
And the will to see more than is there . . . drifts me back . . . back to where . . .
“If” began no sentence . . . and Time only came back in.
Atop our hill . . . I’d spin until . . . I could see you once again.
Love is nothing much . . . or everything . . . depending on your view.
It isn’t something we fall into . . . it is something that we do.
Our eyes . . . looked past us to see . . . a distance . . . we didn’t want to see.
Hey love, I’ve found me dreaming again . . . of a time . . . of a time when . . .
My music inspired the years . . . dissolved our thinking into tears . . .
We owned a lifetime of promises . . . some now forgotten . . . some fulfilled.
(Instrumental)
We knew gentleness and where time was found.
We learned of friendship and it covered us like a sound.
But friendship . . . just has its time. It rarely lasts . . . it just has its time.
It weakens. It fades. It changes its mind. Yes, friendship . . . it just has its time.
And I lift outside of me . . . to see . . . the smile you wore . . . you wore for me.
And your dandelion hair bouquet . . . placed one-by-one by me.
And a leaf to my cheek wakes me back . . . empty for you.
